Queridos amigos,

Con gran dolor recibimos la desgarradora noticia del fallecimiento de nuestra querida amiga Alicia Jrapko, Copresidenta de la Red Nacional de Solidaridad con Cuba (NNOC) en Estados Unidos y Coordinadora del Comité Internacional por la Paz, la Justicia y la Dignidad de los Pueblos. Es un momento triste y doloroso para todos los que tuvimos la oportunidad de trabajar con ella, conociendo su infinito e inquebrantable compromiso con la Revolución Cubana.

El Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos (ICAP) hace llegar nuestro más profundo y sentido pésame a sus familiares, amigos y miembros del movimiento de solidaridad. Alicia fue una sincera y fiel amiga de Cuba. Nunca olvidaremos el apoyo que brindó a los Cinco cubanos, en los momentos más dolorosos y crueles del encarcelamiento y la injusticia.

Trabajó incansablemente en la organización de los “5 Días por los Cinco Cubanos” en Washington DC, y participó en muchos eventos y acciones que exigieron la liberación de nuestros Cinco Héroes, como coloquios, talleres y concentraciones. Visitó a Gerardo Hernández en la cárcel casi un centenar de veces y acompañó a las madres y familiares de los Cinco durante todo el proceso judicial y el tiempo en prisión.

Alicia recibió la Medalla de la Amistad otorgada por el Consejo de Estado de la República de Cuba, por su empeño y destacada labor de apoyo a nuestra Revolución. También fue una activa participante de proyectos solidarios como las Caravanas de Pastores por la Paz.

Reconocemos su compromiso con las causas nobles, no sólo en apoyo a Cuba, sino también con la paz y la justicia en todo el mundo. Sabemos que nuestro movimiento de solidaridad se conduele profundamente con su pérdida. En este triste momento, llegue nuestro abrazo y compromiso a Bill Hackwell y a sus seres queridos.

¡Cuba nunca te olvidará, Alicia!  ¡Hasta la Victoria Siempre!

¡Cuba will never forget you, Alicia!

Dear friends,

It is with great sorrow that we receive the heart-breaking news that our beloved friend Alicia Jrapko, Co-chair of the National Network of Solidarity with Cuba (NNOC) in US and Coordinator of the International Committee for Peace, Justice and Dignity for the Peoples, haspassed away. This is a sad and painful moment for all those who had the opportunity to work with her, knowing her infinite and unwavering commitment to the Cuban Revolution.

The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People (ICAP) extends our deepest and heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and members of the solidarity movement. Alicia was a sincere and faithful friend of Cuba. We will never forget the support she gave to the Cuban Five, during the painful and cruellest moments of incarceration and injustice.

She tirelessly worked on organizing “5 Days for the Cuban Five” in Washington DC, and participated at many events and actions that demanded the release of our Five Heroes, like colloquiums, workshops and rallies. She visited Gerardo Hernández in jail almost one hundred times and accompanied mothers and relatives of the Five during the whole legal process and time in prison.

Alicia received the Friendship Medal awarded by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, for her endeavour and outstanding work in support of our Revolution. She was also an active participant in solidarity projects such as the Caravans of Pastors for Peace.

We recognize her commitment to noble causes, not only in support of Cuba, but also to peace and justice throughout the world. We know that our solidarity movement is deeply moved by her loss. On this sad occasion, we send our embrace and commitment to Bill Hackwell and her loved ones.
